Small changes add up to big changes. I’ve seen it over and over again with clients and in my own life. Pick one thing to focus on and work from there. You don’t have to make many changes at one time to feel better. Just start with one.
One change leads to many
So many people, especially those going through a divorce or other turmoil, try to change too much at once. They may switch jobs or go on a drastic weight loss journey. They put their home on the market. Some do all that and more in the hopes that enough change will make them feel happy again. However, it’s usually just overwhelming and causes more stress.
Perhaps what is worse, is that people feel they have to change everything at once to find their happiness again. Because most people simply can’t do that, they don’t change anything at all. They stay stuck.
However, making one small change can have a tremendous ripple effect. Once you’ve made one positive change, you feel better. Your momentum, confidence and energy grow. That enables you to make another, perhaps bigger change, and the progress continues.
Start today
I know how easy it is to feel so problem saturated that you don’t have any idea of where to start on your path to something better. But trust me, if you start with one thing, just one, it can be a catalyst to change everything. Answer for yourself:
- What is one small thing that would help me today? It should be small, but also have a direct impact on your well-being.
- How will it impact me in positive ways and how will I know it is benefiting me? It’s important to experience the mental, emotional or physical benefits of change, so know how to recognize them.
- What do I need to do to make the change happen? Small changes shouldn’t require you to take drastic measures. Your actions should be simple and doable.
If it truly will make a difference in your life, just go for it. Today. Without hesitation.
